This trope gets a lot of hate, but I think everyone is wrong and here’s why. Accidentally pregnancy takes a lot of heat, but there are so many components to these stories that are so sweet and intimate. Whether they’re friends or strangers; watching people form this small family unit, turning into a team always warms my heart. Not to mention the INSANE competency porn that you get when the MMC starts taking care of the FMC. It’s truly not really about the baby, it’s about the me becoming a we and I’m obsessed.
If you feel ready to dabble, here is a great place to start:
- Seeing Red by Bailey Hannah- Red is as blue collar as they come and Cassidy is the epitome of a good girl. But after a reckless night, the two hook up and Cassidy ends up with child. Red doesn’t think he’s good enough for her but he is damn well going to make sure she’s taken care of. Even if that means making ten different kinds of potatoes.
- Out On A Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young- Win and Bo hook up at a Halloween party and boom, child. These two decide to get to know each other as friends, but we all know how that goes.
- Bar Down Baby by Kath Richards - Hannah goes out to the city and has an amazing night with Barry. Never expecting to see him again, she is shocked to learn he’s actually a famous hockey player, now she really feels like she can’t tell him about the baby. But fate intervenes and it turns out Barry is traded to a team local to Hannah and they train at a facility Hannah cleans.
If you still don’t like the accidental pregnancy trope after these books, well I don’t think it’s possible, they’re TOO good.
